About Brandy (Dr. B)

Welcome! I’m a doctor of clinical nutrition who supports women to resolve the mysterious symptoms that began after having their baby while empowering them with the evidence-based information they need to understand their situation isn’t normal or “just in their head.”

Meet Brandy!

Hi, I'm Dr. Brandy Cummings. I'm a mom and preconception, pregnancy, and postpartum nutritionist.

I'm the woman behind Pivotal Origins. But this isn't just the name of my practice.

It's my vision of  how you should have been cared for from your first trimester.

And why you still have unexplained symptoms.

Meet Dora!

Dora Toma is a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach specialized in women’s health and fertility

For her, everything all started with her own health struggles. First with managing her PCOS diagnosis and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, then she gone through a difficult pregnancy that lead to premature labor and loss.

From that point she has decided to learn all she could about how to improve her health and optimize her fertility and be able to have a healthy baby. All these efforts have paid off and she was able to give birth to a healthy and beautiful girl the following year.

Seeing with her own eyes the lack of support that women receive throughout their reproductive years, she became a subject matter expert for other women who are going through this season in their lives.

It All Started When I Was Working in a Moldy Building...

Pivotal Origins and my work as a postpartum nutritionist began in a nondescript building at Washington State University.

I was teaching nutrition, a topic I love.

But I was sick—vertigo, vision problems, anxiety, and a persistent rash were part of my everyday life. These symptoms only worsened after I learned I was pregnant. I was ecstatic! But something didn’t feel right.

I had no idea the building I worked in every day was full of black mold.

I suffered a traumatic miscarriage, left my position, and, once recovered, went to work figuring out what had happened.

With time and help, I put together my illness, miscarriage, and mold toxicity. This experience spurred me to continue my education so I could help other women like me.

And in the midst of healing, I got pregnant again!

This time I wanted to make sure I was as proactive as possible. At five weeks I called my OBGYN's office to schedule my first appointment--I wasn't taking any chances.

I will never forget the shock and sadness I experienced at being told to call back in six weeks, at the end of my first trimester...the standard of care for many newly pregnant women.

Even a woman with a history of miscarriage...

Even women with a history of chronic illness...

Even when those first few weeks of pregnancy are crucial for the well-being of the mother during pregnancy and postpartum and are the most formative for the neurological development of the baby.

Even then.

Throughout my pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, the gaps in support became more evident.

The health of a mom before becoming pregnant is pivotal to the origins, or beginning, of her children's lives...

Pivotal to her health as she progresses through pregnancy into postpartum.

And pivotal to the robust health of generations to come...

Hence the name of my practice...Pivotal Origins.

As a postpartum nutritionist, I work with patients who never felt the same after giving birth. They can feel their experience isn't normal. They know it.

I trust my patients. I've been there.

I know how easily aspects of our health can get overlooked and how critical it is to investigate all possibilities--from mold to metals to the debilitating effects of hidden Lyme activated by pregnancy and birth.

I help you return to the origins of your experience. In this way, Pivotal Origins speaks to the underlying cause of your unexplainable symptoms.

What is the origin, the reason for your gut-wrenching fatigue? Thinning hair? Anxiety that leaves you sleepless and even more exhausted?
